Middle School Prom

Middle School times pass in a blink of an eye. Students change constantly during the three years of middle school. It seems that every day, there will be a surprise. Those surprises can come from body changes or grades performance in classes. If a parent wants to see how their child changes socially inside Middle School, perhaps sneaking inside a Middle School prom would be a good idea. They can see different dance styles, deans and teachers interact with students, and the abrupt form of ending at the celebration.
If parents could be allowed to go to the middle school prom, they would probably be amazed by how teenagers’ bodies can move with incredible coordination. Their body moves respond to the beat of the music. It seems they have a cable connected to the DJ. Sometimes, “dance battles” appear in the middle of the dance floor. In nature, many species like to show off their abilities and the reasons for that are diverse, but most of the time, it is to impresses a mate. In the Middle School years, this form of attraction is already in place. Gossip about handsome boys or the prettiest girl is all over the party. Some courageous ones ask the girl out. It means he wants everybody in the party to know that he got her even though this date will not last a day. Perhaps the Tale of Cinderella and the end of her date at midnight could be applied to the middle school prom. Their dating is expected to end very soon, with no heart-broken feelings. The moods of the students change completely when the slow dance starts.  Some hide, some engage eye to eye as an invitation, and others just pretend they are too busy for dance “slow music.” This “love is in the air,” atmosphere does not last for a long time.
While, the students are having a blast from the slow dance, deans and teachers are practicing their eagle-like vision. They can see everything, and things yet to come. They know the students’ ability to move, to disguise them, and to create a romantic situation. As soon as a dean or teacher can fear a possibility of students’ misbehavior, they engage in an approach to the couple, so they know there are being watched. Luckily, for everyone on the dance floor, the slow dance does not last longer. It reminds me a middle school date. The DJ starts to feel the move again and as a professional pilot, he presses many buttons at once, and he locks the headphone on one side of his head, and invites everyone to shake their bodies and perform what sort of dance each one prefers. By this time deans and teachers are already dancing and being the center of attention from students who thought their teachers and deans will not be capable of such activities, for example, dancing,   smiling, and being a human. “They are teachers and deans and they not supposed to be human,” some students may think.
Like Cinderella’s Tale, the end of the prom is imminent. The difference is that Cinderella had until midnight to enjoy the party; in contrast, the Middle School students have only until nine o’clock. Cinderella had the clock sound as a sign of the ending of the ball. For every bell’s ring, she had an opportunity to say goodbye to the ballroom. That advantage is not the case for the middle school prom. When nine o’clock comes, there is not a second more to relax, to kiss someone without previous notice, or to drink the last soda.  The students must leave even if the best music of all time is playing. There is no extra time for them. They will be outside of the gymnasium waiting to be picked up by their parents. As soon as they enters the car, their parents will ask many questions trying to solve the mystery of a middle school prom, but the only answer they will receive from their teenager is “It was good.”
